Valentine's is not just for Lovers.

6:30 am Valentine’s day. The alarm clock rings, and I jump out of bed with a sense of giddiness that you usually only see in a small child. I love Valentine’s day. Not for the same reasons as every one else. I am not excited because I have balloons or flowers covering my bedroom or the aroma of a homemade breakfast in bed. I am not excited by the prospect of chocolates from my sweetie or a romantic dinner at my favorite restaurant. I am excited because ‘my Valentine’s day’ is planned around self care and giving my mind, body, and spirit some TLC.

First things first, I make some coffee. While my french press is steeping those glorious grinds, I set my intentions for the day. Now I sit myself down in my favorite spot with my hot coffee and I put my headphones on for my morning meditation. I only take about 10 minutes to check in with my mind/body connection while my perfect cup of coffee cools enough to take that first sip. Mornings really are the best time for self care.

Second, after getting everyone fed, clothed and off the school, I head to my favorite pilates class for today’s workout. This class, I have been anticipating all week. It was so aptly named “heart pumping pilates”, and I knew I was in for getting my butt kicked (just the way I like my workouts).

Finally, I will check in later for my all time favorite yoga class. Okay, so I went a little heavy on the whole meditation/yoga/pilates theme, but after all, these are the things that really are just for me.

Whatever your plans are for the day with loved ones, remember to check in with some self love. The better you treat you, the better and more loved the people around you will feel. Trust me when I say, Valentine’s is not just for lovers anymore.

What did you treat yourself with today? Tell us in the comments!
